Snowy Sunday Update

We've picked up about 4 inches of snow this morning to add to the 16 inches from Thursday, which will set us up nicely for another day of powder and packed powder conditions. Weather forecasts are calling for snow showers to continue for the remainder of the morning.
Grooming Update: Because of the rapidly falling snow, you will encounter snow atop the skate groomed trails. We will not be laying down classic tracks today due to the snow.

Classic Tracks

Attention classic skiing fans. We plan to have 18km of classic tracks set for Sunday. End of update.

A Foot Of Fresh And Counting

It has been snowing hard all day. We've picked up a foot of new snow since the storm began early this morning and it is showing no signs of letting up. The forecast calls for snow to continue into Friday morning. We plan to get out and skate groom 18km of trails for tomorrow. We will probably have some classic tracks set by Saturday. And, the remainder of our 100km of terrain is full of fresh snow and open.

Nordic Opening Day.

Today is Opening Day at Bolton Valley Nordic! We have picked up enough snow over the past few days to provide 7km of skate skiing on Broadway, Picnic Loop, Upper Maple Loop and Tear Drop. The rest of our terrain is open for exploration on skis or snowshoes. Please be aware that early season conditions exist and there are some thin spots out there. The wax of the day will be Red. Day tickets are just $5 today through Tuesday. Happy Holidays.

Also, we are now on facebook! http://www.facebook.com/BoltonValleyNordic

Getting Closer: Stay Tuned!

The long awaited start to the Nordic season should be just around the corner. The 17 inches of natural snowfall has helped us stack up a solid base, and inch closer to an Opening Day.
We are hopeful for an opening this weekend, but we're still waiting to see what the rest of today's weather might do, so we’re still in a bit of a holding pattern. We suggest you stay tuned to the Nordic Snow Report for more updates. Saturday and Sunday are both calling for cold temps and natural snow, and if we can open our Nordic trails we certainly will.
Hang in there Nordic fans!

More waiting...

Just a quick update here today! The good news is, it's currently snowing here at Bolton Valley, and it has been for several hours. Due to the wind, it's a tad difficult to get an estimate, but at the very least, we have an inch of fresh on the ground.

We do not have a projected Opening Day for our Nordic trails at this point, but as soon as we have enough natural snow, we'll be ready to go! Keep checking back for updates!

Waiting for the Snow

This warm weather and unfrozen precipitation is not doing us any favors in the Nordic world. We anticipate an opening day of December 15th for our Nordic trails, but, this depends on natural snowfall. Right now we don't have any significant snow in the forecast so it's not looking too promising for a Saturday opening. We'll keep our eye on the sky and when we get enough snow to open our Nordic terrain we'll be ready to go. We strongly encourage Nordic skiers to continue to check back here for natural snowfall updates.

Opening Day Postponed

We wish we had more snow to report today! As you may have already heard, our opening day has been delayed. Our new opening day is now scheduled for Saturday, December 15th.
We are currently in a stretch of a few days of warm temperatures. It looks like this warm weather will stick around until Wednesday night. Unfortunately, most of the snow we’ve received from last week’s storms has not held up on our Nordic trails. However, we are watching the weather carefully, and current projections are calling for possible snow on Wednesday night, followed by slightly cooler temps on and off in the next several days. Keep your fingers crossed for more of the white stuff!
We are hopeful for an opening day of December 15th for our Nordic trails, but, this depends on natural snowfall.

Warming Temps

The good news is we received about an inch of new snow on Saturday. However, we are currently entering a stretch of a few days of warm temperatures. We are still hoping to open on December 8th for Nordic skiing, but, we'll have to see how much snow we loose over the next few days with the warm temps. We'll have a better idea later this week of if Opening Day will go on as planned.

Good Morning, this is what it looks like up here this morning. Might have to take a run. Don't forget to vote tomorrow.

Happy Halloween Nordic Skiers. I would like to welcome you all back for another season. The Goats have been out and about doing their thing, I thank them for that. The V.L.T. is finalizing the purchase of the trails for eternal preservation, I would like to thank them for that. It looks like we will host a lot of the same activities as well as bring back a couple classic races and even add an event or two. We look forward to seeing you up here at B.V. Nordic this season.

Season Pass Deadline

"It's like deja vu all over again". Yes, we've been talking about the season pass deadline for a while now but we really want to make sure that you know the season pass deadline is coming up on Monday, September 24th. Why? Well because "It gets late early out there." Not only are the days getting shorter (so it really does get late earlier) but the number of days until pass prices increase is also getting smaller. Before you know it, it'll be too late to get your pass at the current rate. While it's true that "The game isn't over until it's over" it's also true that the current prices will be over after Monday. (A tip of the ski helmet is due to Yogi Berra for the above quotes.)
Quick recap of 2012-13 Bolton Valley All Access Season Pass (exclusive of sales tax):
  • $569   Adult
  • $159   Youth (when purchased with a parent's Adult All Access Season Pass)
  • $299   Youth (when not purchased with a parent's Adult All Access Season Pass)
  • $25     Child (ages 6 and under)
  • $299   Senior
  • $120   Nordic Adult
  • $90     Nordic Youth/College/Senior
The new 2 for U College Season Pass is also on sale for just $249 until Halloween. It gives full time college students unlimited skiing and riding at Bolton Valley and Smugglers' Notch all season long.
Season long ski and snowboard programs, including Ridge Runners and Ridge Riders, and season long leases for just $99 are also on sale now
We'll be back at Alpine Shop in South Burlington printing and selling passes this Sunday from 10am - 6pm. This will be the last day of the Avalanche Sale at the Alpine Shop and they're pulling out all the stops. The Obermeyer Bounce "Chalet" will be set up for the kids. I assume this is like a bounce house but with a European twist of some sort. Also, there will be free Italian food and treats from Dalbello Boots and SWAG giveaways from Line Skis.

Vermont's Largest Ski and Snowboard Sale

We're only three days away from the opening day of Vermont's Largest Ski and Snowboard Sale. The folks who are running the sale are hard at work this morning turning the Sports Center into a giant sales floor packed with skis, snowboards, boots, outerwear and accessories. The sale opens on Thursday night. They have over $1 Million in inventory with prices as low as $99 for skis and snowboards and kids boards starting at $59.  In addition to the sale, this weekend is packed with plenty of other events and reasons to make the trip to Bolton Valley.

We've packed the weekend full of events to keep you entertained while you are up here picking up all the goods you need for the season.

On Friday we'll kick things off with the Labor of Love Rail Jam. We'll set up a rail and truck in some snow for the first on snow rail jam of the season. Registration is open now.

On Saturday we'll host the Run Strong Vermont 5K. All proceeds go back to ReBuild Waterbury. The prize list is pretty long and amazing for this event. Some prizes will be raffled off so you don't have to have a super fast time to go home with something cool. We'll also have a silent auction for other prizes. Everyone who enters the race will be entered into a raffle for a 2012-13 Bolton Valley All Access Season Pass.

We've teamed up with the Richmond Farmers' market for a mini-farmers' market here at Bolton Valley on Sunday. We'll have vendors with prepared food and locally made food products set up inside the Sports Center from 11am - 2pm. We're also working on some live music, stay tuned for details.

We'll also be printing and selling season passes at the sale.

thanks for a great season

If this looks good to you than come on up and ski. I skied almost all of Maple to Spruce and Broadway this morning. But really folks , the only thing that has enough coverage to ski is Broadway to pond loop. That could even change tomorrow. But if you don't mind hopping over grass and creek crossings then you could try world cup or Bryant. We are done with rental gear and lessons. However the sports center will be open at least the next week. Thanks again for a great season, we look forward to the future with the Land Trust and catering to the local schools by meeting the grooming needs of the sport on that level. See you soon.-Rob D

the "Truth" as of 3-17-12

Happy St. Patrick's day. I made the rounds today, but I forgot my camera so you will have to take my word. For Nordic we have Broadway to Spruce and upper Maple Loop, Pond loop and and upper world cup as of the end of today. For back country we have Bryant, Gardner's Lane , birch loop, heavenly highway and devils drop still covered. It is soft there are a few water crossings and it is possible to sink through the untracked snow. So like the beginning of the season be careful but if you want to get one last ski in it is possible.

So believe it or not I was able to groom and everything is still open with nice spring corn snow. There are a couple of spots on each trail you need step over but you don't have to get out of your skis on any trail yet. I don't know how long it will last so get it while you can.

March 1st

Definitely coming in like a lion, so far March seems to be quite wintery. With more snow over the next 24 hours the backcountry will only ski better and I hope to keep up with the grooming for skate and classic on the nordic trails. Its snowing and blowing right now but I hope to get out and groom later this morning.

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

2-28

February is not over yet. The snow is amazing, I was able to get all the trails groomed for Nordic and classic and the back country is off the hook .

More Snow, Great Skiing

We're seeing the snow start to fall here at Bolton Valley on Friday morning. We expect it to continue through tomorrow afternoon and we could pick up about a foot of snow. This will really help to freshen things up on our groomed terrain and pile up some powder stashes in the backcountry. We hope to see you are the Bolton Valley Nordic Center this weekend.

Snow Again 2-17-2012

I was a bit worried driving up the hill but once I reached the top there was snow on the road. The skiing is great up here once again. We are trying to get out to groom some Nordic this morning, but I did groom all our trails yesterday and they have about 5cm of new on top. Bolton valley does seem to have its own weather system, best of both worlds I guess. You can get into the garden and golf down in the Champlain valley and still have good skiing up here.

The Vt/Wellesley College girls heading out on a Glorious day. The skiing is amazing up here.

Friday, February 3, 2012

2-3-12

A dusting of real lite feathery snow is only improving our conditions today. Any of the discipline choices should serve well on the good conditions we have on our Nordic and Back Country trails. We would like to welcome the Women's Backcountry skiing clinic this weekend.www.girlsmovemountains.org

Thursday, February 2, 2012

Happy Ground hog day.

So we survived yet another warm -up. Today we have hard pack with a dusting on top. Its actually good considering, for all disciplines. In fact Teal said, " best skate day yet, but with rock skis." On tuesday I had my best back country run of the season . All in all I would say we are no worse for the ware, I hope you will venture up and look for your shadow.

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

new snow

We picked up about four fresh last night , I will get a classic track out on the trails this morning and the BC is amazing.

Friday, January 27, 2012

1-27

So we have not groomed in a couple days , waiting to see what pans out with this system. The Nordic trails are variable between a glaze , slightly breakable crust and soft grit all within one trails length. Its still okay coverage overall. The BC is better up higher but not as high as the ridge where it got more wind. I guess we will see what happens tonight. I hope to groom with one our machines not sure which one yet.

update for 1-25-12

So believe it or not I thought it was pretty good this morning. I went out on waxless , edgeless and free formed around the groomed trails. The frozen tundra with a couple centimeters of fresh was fast on the down and just enough grip on the up. A few obstacles have reappeared but the coverage is enough that they are easy to dodge. The Back country however not so much , there is still the breakable crust with some loose frozen granular under that that isn't quite powder like anymore and it is stiff on the old tracks. With that said , our conditions once again can only improve with some cold and snowy weather I expect to see some nice cold smoke powder on a solid base. So for Nordic come anytime and the BC should be ready for later in the week and weekend. See you soon Rob D

bc friday

New snow on top of an old hard layer, quite good actually. We should have all the Nordic trails groomed for tomorrow.

Thursday, January 19, 2012

got grooming

We were able to get some trails groomed and will continue tomorrow with classic track, with some lite snow tonight it could make nice conditions either discipline.

thursday

Well its cold , sunny and firm. We have flurries coming the next few days so it will improve through the weekend with temps rising I think Sunday could be a winner so you should probably come up all the days before to get your legs ready for whichever discipline you choose.

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

where classic , skate and bc trax meet

Looking good at the intersection of Goat , Maple and Spruce. Its spitting a little but its still nice gliding.

Its winter

We have snow , might not get out to groom it for tomorrow , I will try to keep you posted . The BC is awesome.

Update

Good day folks. We picked up another 10 cm of snow yesterday with strong winds which favored the trails above the Cabin. The BC is skiing well with a solid base. We were able to Groom Broadway , Pond loop , upper Maple to Teardrop , Picnic and Valley loops for Skate and World cup for classic. Even if we don't get to Groom tomorrow I believe these trails will hold up quite well.

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

Its snowing

We keep picking up a little everyday. The Nordic and Back Country trails are skiing nice. Thanks to the PSIA Nordic team who skied with us over the weekend. Welcome UVM , for fun day this Thursday.

Its looking good up here , filling in nicely the higher up you go.

Report for 1-6-12

It has snowed about 6-8 inches in the last 48 hours improving our Nordic and Back Country trails. We have 2.5 k of groomed for Skate terrain on Broadway and about 6k of track set for classic on Picnic loop and World cup. The Bryant trail is well packed up to the cabin and the BC trails are great for snowshoeing. Even though early season conditions still exist there is some great Nordic skiing to be had out there.

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

5k open

We have 5k of a classic track freshly groomed today. It's the fourth day of January and it feels like winter. Hope to see you , dress warm.
