Saturday Grooming

On Saturday morning we skate groomed and set classic tracks on Picnic Loop, Valley Loop, World Cup, Maple Loop (Upper, Middle and Lower), Spruce Run and Broadway. We also freshly skate groomed Bobcat, Telemark and Teardrop.

Saturday Update

This weekend will continue our trend of excellent conditions on the Nordic side of life. We did a nice amount of grooming on Thursday and reports from the trails indicate that some of the best skiing you'll find right now is going to be had on the groomed surfaces. We will regroom a few trails Saturday morning for both skate and classic and should have an update by 10am. Those trails will have the freshest, most recent grooming, but all groomed trails will be in good shape. Backcountry skiers will want to know that the best bet is to ski on the well traveled and high traffic terrain. Conditions may prove difficult for skiing in the backcountry otherwise. The wax of the day is once again Yellow.

Nordic: Oh So Nice!

This weekend will continue our trend of excellent conditions on the Nordic side of life. We woke up to another inch of snow this morning and after a brief respite, the snow is now picking up. We did a nice amount of grooming yesterday and reports from the trails indicate that some of the best skiing you'll find right now is going to be had on the groomed surfaces. We currently have 15km for skate skiing and 10km of classic tracks set as of 2pm yesterday. We will likely re-groom late Friday night into Saturday morning to freshen up the trails and provide the most terrain for the weekend.

Backcountry skiers will want to know that the best bet is to ski on the well traveled and high traffic terrain. Conditions may prove difficult for skiing in the backcountry otherwise.

Did you know Bolton Valley is going into "Extra Innings?" That's right, thanks to the excellent conditions, we will add a bonus weekend for skiing on April 6th and 7th. That means Nordic pass holders can ski an extra weekend of Nordic and backcountry and Nordic day tickets will be just $5. Check out more info about Extra Innings weekend!

Grooming Update

We groomed 10 trails for 11km of skate and classic tracks late on Saturday morning. We plan to touch this up on Sunday as more snow is expected overnight.

5-7 Inches of new snow!

Good News! We picked up 5-7 inches of new snow overnight. But, this covered up the grooming we did yesterday. So, we'll get back out there and groom this morning. Check the snow report for the latest updates.

20" Since Tuesday Means a Great Nordic Weekend!

As of this morning, we have reached 20 inches of fresh snowfall since Tuesday. This storm has been mighty generous, leaving behind some incredible conditions in its wake. Why not capitalize on that gift by taking in the absolutely astonishing conditions that fill the backcountry here at Bolton Valley?

For the weekend, we will have a freshly groomed 11km of skate and classic trails and the weather looks to be cooperative as well. We've been seeing some consistent sun towards the end of the week and on Saturday we have a chance of snow in the forecast.

And if it's powder you're looking for, we have a-plenty. Check out the photo to the right. That was only taken yesterday at 6:15 pm...so there's lots of untouched stashes filling the backcountry woods.

Take it all in. Days like these remind us why we ski in Vermont.

Nordic Center Open at 8am!

Conditions? Well, they’re incredible. The powder is soft, deep and plentiful. Every trail you pick is going to ski great, from the snow-filled woods to the groomed terrain. There’s really no going wrong. In the past 48 hours, we've had a whopping 16-17 inches of snow!
By noontime today we had 11km of skate and classic tracked trails. Midday tomorrow we will re-groom the same trails. We will also return back to regular Nordic Center hours tomorrow, which means you can access the Nordic Center starting at 8am.

Snow.

We've picked up 9-10 inches of new snow as of 2pm on Tuesday and it is still coming down. Heavily. This nice March storm is providing for some amazing mid-winter conditions. The backcountry will be the place to be tomorrow as powder will be plentiful. We will groom 10 trails for 11km of both skate and classic skiing in the morning. However, we expect to get a couple more inches of snow throughout the day on Wednesday so, that grooming may be covered up rather quickly.

Nordic OPEN!

A very brief update, with more to come!

Given the fresh 3 inches of snow we picked up yesterday, we have decided to go ahead and reopen our 100km of Nordic and backcountry terrain for today. The trails will remain ungroomed and we advise you to ski with caution as surfaces may be variable. Today would be an especially good day for snowshoes. We will look to groom late Friday or Saturday in the hopes of providing classic and skate skiing surfaces for the weekend.

Free Nordic Ticket Day!

Good morning BV Nordic and Backcountry Fans! As you may have seen on the Nordic Snow Report and BV Nordic and Backcountry Facebook Page, today is FREE Nordic Ticket Day. You show up at the Nordic Center and get your free ticket for the day. Pretty much that simple. That means you get to explore the 100km of backcountry terrain, take a spin on the 10km of both skate and classic trails or tromp through the snow and enjoy the sunshine on showshoes. We will have a free backcountry tour today starting at 1pm from the Nordic Center, so join us! The Point will also be here hosting an après party up in the James Moore Tavern, so once you're done on skis, grab a burger and a brew!

This weekend is also the 5th Annual Trapps to Bolton Backcountry Race and Tour.  You can read more about the race here, or sign up. Even if you're not racing from Trapp to get here, there will still be plenty to enjoy.

This afternoon the sun is expected to roll in and stick around for the day Saturday. In fact, the sun is even trying to peek out from behind the clouds right now! The temperatures could climb into the upper 30s by Sunday, so it seems that we'll be shedding a layer and skiing on the less bundled side as we're visited by a bit of spring-like weather! Hope you get out an enjoy what looks to be a beautiful weekend.

Backcountry=Awesome

Singing in the rain? Dreaming of a brown mud season? It’s okay Burlington, don’t sweat it Montpelier. It may not be snowy where you are, but it sure is here. In fact, we’ve picked up between 7-9 inches of snow since Wednesday and we have snow in the forecast both today, tonight and into Saturday. So if the grey and gloom is starting to get to you, just remind yourself of the magical winter paradise that awaits you at the top of the BV Access Road.

First off, the backcountry. My question is this...just what are you waiting for? It's outstanding. There are lots of places you'll find untracked powder this weekend without a doubt. This last storm really did heaps of good for any skiing in the trees, so now really is the time. Additionally, with the weekend weather looking mild, you'll be able to be at it a little longer without freezing your backside off! Snowshoeing is also a great bet right now, especially for a killer workout.

Currently, we have some light grooming consisting of 5k for skate and 4.5k for classic. We hope to increase the amount of grooming for tomorrow and the weekend, so be sure to check the Nordic Snow Report for an update.

Don’t forget, tomorrow is the GMARA Frigid Infliction Adventure Race! And looking ahead on the Nordic agenda, March 8th is Free Nordic Ticket Day, and you can enjoy a free Guided Backcountry Tour thanks to our partnership with the Vermont Land Trust and the community group, Friends of BV Nordic and Backcountry.
